Definition
The carpal tunnel is an area in the wrist where the bones and ligaments create a small passageway
for the median nerve.

When this nervebecomes pressed at the wrist, it causes pain, tingling and discomfort known as
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
It is more common in women between the ages of 30 and 50 working in office (like secretaries) but also cash registers, factoryworkers, and some musicians may suffer this syndrome.

Compression of the median nerve in the wrist can occur
due to:
- Activities that requires strong or repetitive wrist
motions
- Pregnancy
- Obesity
- Arthritis
- Diabetes
- Fractures, sprains,
and dislocations of the arm and wrist

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome include
- Inflammation
- Numbness,
- Burning,
- Tingling
- Weakness
- Shooting pain

syndrome may eventually result in permanent paralysis of the thumb and fingers

Use a cold compress toreduce inflammation but in case of pain use a hot compress by steaming a towel
for 5 to 10 minutes and then wrap within another towel to retain heat.
Rub eucalyptus oil directlyonto the affected area or place a few drops onto a steam towel and place it
over the painful area.
Put your hand inwarm water containing seven drops of lavender oil for 25 minutes.
