Diabetes -  Home Remedies and  Natural Cures

Definition

Diabetes mellitus is a disease known since time immemorial.  The word Diabetes comes from the Greek term meaning "to siphon to pass through", and mellitus derived

from the Latin word "honey" which describes the sweetness of the diabetic urine.

It is a condition in which the pancreas does notproduce enough insulin to burn up the body's intake of sugars from food or the pancreas produces plenty of insulin,  but  the cellsstop responding to the insulin that is produced, so that glucose in the blood cannot be absorbed.

There are two types of Diabetes.  Type I Diabetes, sometimes called juvenile Diabetes or insulin-dependent Diabetes, begins most commonly in childhood.Inthis form of Diabetes, the body produces little or no insulin.  Due to that fact, these persons need to have injections of insulin 1-2 times per day.

Type II, called age-onset, adult-onset Diabetes or noninsulin-dependent Diabetes, begins over the age of 40 and occurs most often in people who are overweight and do not exercise. Many people with Type II Diabetes can control the condition with diet and oral medications, but insulin injections sometimes are needed.

Gestational Diabetes, another form of Diabetes, can develop during pregnancy andgenerally resolves after the baby is delivered. The condition can usually control by diet, however, insulin injections may be required. Women who have gestational Diabetes are at higher risk for developing Type II Diabetes within 10 years.
