A headache, also known a cephalalgia, is a pain of the head which arises from irritation of nerve endings in the shoulder, neck and also in the smooth muscles encircling the blood vessels which serve these regions.

 

Headaches are divided into two large categories, primary and secondary. Primary headaches are not caused by an underlying medical condition (migraine, cluster, and tension) and secondary headaches are caused by another disease such as infectious diseases.
