Sinusitis or sinus infection refers to an inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the paranasal sinuses

   

Sinusitis problem can affect virtually any person and sometimes follows the common influenza, cold and other general infections.

Sinuses are cavities or chambers contained in the bones of the head.  They are the frontal sinuses (located above the eyes), the maxillary sinuses (located within the cheekbones), the ethmoid sinuses (located between the eyes) and the sphenoid sinuses (located just behind the eyes).

 

Causes & Symptoms

Some causes of sinusitis are:

  • Viral infection

  • Allergies

  • Fungal infection

  • Deviated septum

  • Smoking

         

The symp­toms of sinusitis are:

  • Pressure

  • Pain (jaw, teeth and sinus area) and headache

  • Running nose

  • Constant sneezing

  • Congestion

  • Drainage from the nose often changes to a thicker yellowish-green discharge.

  • Fever (sometimes)

 

Nature Medicine and Home Remedies for Sinusitis

Press for 15 to 30 seconds your sinuses with your thumbs firmly on both sides of your nose.  Hold, release, and then repeat.  This action will temporarily relieve sinusitis pain because it brings a fresh supply of blood to the sinus.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of baking sodain one cup of warm water; and fill an ear syringe and squirt the mixture up in the nose.

Mix one teaspoon of uniodized salt and 1/2 teaspoon ofgarlic powder Place it in a nasal inhaler.

Irrigate the sinuses with a salt water solution inorder to clear the nasal passages of mucus.

Mix 2 teaspoons of goldenseal powder in a cup ofwater.  Add 4 teaspoons of salt. Then irrigate the sinuses with it.

Inhale a combination of two cups of water and twoteaspoon of rosemary tea or only inhale the steam of hot water.

Apply directly over the sinuses hot and cold compressesalternating 3 minutes hot, 30 seconds cold (always ending with cold)

Use the vapors from hot honey and lemon

Eat a well-balanced diet of three basic food groups.

Maintain usualstandards of good hygiene to cut down on the number of colds an indi­vidual catches.

Avoiding exposureto cigarette smoke

Identify andtreat allergies

Avoid deep divesinto swimming pools or other aquatic areas in order to pre­vent sinusinfections.

Avoid dairyproducts and/or wheat products.

Avoid strong spices, meat and products.
